Dreams and armless colleagues

I had a terrible bloody dream last night. I can’t remember exactly what it was about, but I do know that at some stage I was drowning, after which I could miraculously breathe under water.

I also dreamt that I was in a car accident with a colleague, (we used to share a carpool to work) a friend I haven’t seen in a very long time and her brother (who I have a soft spot for, because he’s got a mild form of mental retardation and loves hanging out with “the girls”.)

I dreamt that we were driving along, (my friend was driving) and ended up going off the road, flying through the air and crashing down into a very steep hill. The car caught alight. In my dream I woke up in hospital about a month later, nothing wrong with me. But I later find out that my friend and her brother died in the crash, and that my collegue lost both his hands and a leg.

I woke up extremely upset and crying, which is why I tried to find info on the meaning of dreams. I found this interesting article, which doesn’t really give me clarity on this specific dream, but is great for the next time I have a steamy dream… (which is hopefully soon!)

Not quite Office Goddess of Poker (yet)

My mission to become Office Goddess of Poker, or failing that, just generally accepted as One Of The Lads and not Her With Breasts Who Sit Down Peeing, is sadly failing miserably.

In the odd moments where I've actually been able to stop and catch a shaky breath under the ever-increasing pressure of mounting paperwork, I've been brushing up on my poker skills.

I was delighted to find that my favorite poker room, The Gaming Club Poker, has a poker school with all the rules, tips and tricks I need. It's easily understandable without making me feel like a complete idiot and I think I've learned quite a bit.

Not quite enough to beat my chest and declare myself Poker Goddess yet, but we're getting there. I think I might even take part in a freeroll this weekend, and see how it goes.

Germans threaten to arrest British executives of online gambling

Not-so-veiled threats from the Germans

First it was the Carruthers arrest by US authorities, followed by the detention of British businessman Peter Dicks in New York and more recently the apprehension of Austrian Bwin online gaming chiefs who were on a visit to France.

Now German authorities are threatening to arrest British executives of online gambling companies if they set foot in the country.

Officials from the interior ministries of the German states of Hesse and Bavaria told UK publication The Business that executives of foreign companies who let German residents place sports bets online are committing “criminal” acts that could lead to prosecution in Germany.

When gambling online's not fun anymore

Online Responsible Gambling Tool Given Green Light

Help is on hand for those who feel their gambling is getting out of control, and need help online.

A pilot service that was launched to help control and monitor online gambling behaviour has received so much endorsement that it is now set to be fully integrated within the industry later this month.

gamAid will be the first online service providing instant, real-time, one-to-one professional guidance for remote gamblers whose gambling activities are out of control or for those who wish to better understand the concepts of responsible gaming.

The new service which has been piloted on a trial basis for the last six months has already hosted over 55,000 visits, providing 1000 one-to-one help sessions between April and July alone.

'On-line advice is tailored to a client's needs and includes one-to-one consultations and information about managing a gambling habit. We also provide on-line links to support services, forums and specialist counselling local to the client, in whatever country they live.'

Women urged to wear nice knickers – just in case!

If your mom is anything like mine and millions of moms around the world, she probably told you to always “wear nice underwear, incase you get in an accident”

Well, police in Suffolk, one of the UK's "Home Counties", took this well-known phrase a step further by warning women drivers, and other women going on boozy nights out, to "wear nice pants" in case they fall down drunk in the street.

A Suffolk police safety campaign magazine shows pictures of young women slumped on the ground next to messages urging them: "If you've got it, don't flaunt it."

"If you fall over or pass out, remember your skirt or dress may ride up," the magazine says.
"You could show off more than you intended - for all our sakes, please make sure you're wearing nice pants and that you've recently had a wax."

Readers are also told to stick with friends, book a taxi home and watch the amount they drink.

Police told Reuters the Safe! magazine's gossipy, tongue-in-cheek style was designed to alert young women to the dangers they could face if they get drunk during a night out.

"We need to raise their awareness of potential problems," said Chief Superintendent David McDonnell.

"They become more vulnerable while under the influence of alcohol."

Umphh! Well we all knew that.

Why do you think men buy girls drinks in bars in the first place?

Great news for internet gamblers

It appears that the Internet gambling bill won't make it through the Senate this year, thanks largely to the banking industry.

The banking sector has voiced strong opposition to provisions that require banks to block electronic funds transfers or e-check payments to online gambling sites. These provisions are essentially broad and unenforceable, the banks claim; moreover, even if it were possible to surmount technical obstacles, prospective gamblers could easily use alternative means to finance such transactions.

No bill is likely before the end of this legislative year, leaving the online gambling issue to the new Congress, which convenes in January 2007.

This is great news for those who enjoy Internet Gambling.

Grab your chance to protect the future of online play

Online poker players and gamblers have been called upon to unite for a Phone March on Washington, by calling 800-289-1136 today, Tuesday September 12, 2006.

With this effort, the groups hope to keep online poker alive in the United States.

When you call the above number, a toll free system will ask you to enter your zip code. You’ll then be connected, free of charge, to the appropriate Senators’ offices.

“This is an easy way to send a message,” says PocketFives.com President Cal Spears. “If everyone voices their disapproval for this legislation on the same day, we will send a clear signal to the Senate that America does not support banning internet gambling and online poker.”

“The threat to online poker is real. We need everyone possible to make their voice heard on September 12th from 9:00am to 5:30pm ET,” says Poker Players Alliance Spokesperson John Pappas.

On PocketFives.com, callers can find a complete background on the bill itself, including a story concerning the arrest of Sportsbook.com CEO Peter Dicks. In addition, PocketFives.com also has talking points for the Phone March on Washington: “It is extremely important that we all send the same message to our Senators,” stresses Spears. “Please read the talking points on PocketFives.com before placing your call so that we are all have the same arguments. From there, your job is free and easy: just dial the 800 number and you will be connected directly to your Senators’ offices.”

So make that call and do your bit to protect the future of online play.

The modern Good Wife's Guide

I cringed when I read the 1955, 'The Good Wife's Guide' for the first time. I also indignantly laughed, foamed at the mouth and sent it to all my girl friends with sarcastic subjectlines.

Thank god those days are over, and us strong, independent women can lift our heads and shout, "hell no!" with glee.

However, after coming across this modern take on a very outdated article, it actually makes sense.

It's worth a read.

Shares in Online Gaming Plummits After Another Exec Detained

Shares in online gaming stocks plummeted following news that a second Internet gaming executive was detained, with analysts saying the development has 'grave consequences' for the online gaming sector.

According to Sportingbet, their non-executive chairman Peter Dicks was detained by US authorities while visiting the US on non-Sportingbet business.

Dicks' detention follows the arrest of BetonSports PLC's former chief executive David Carruthers earlier this year and the subsequent 22-count indictment served on BetonSports, alleging various charges of racketeering, conspiracy and fraud, including breaches of the 1961 Wire Act.

PartyPoker player arrested while playing at home

Police raided professional poker player Richard Lee's Shavano Park house in San Antonio last week. They referred to his residence as the "nerve center" of a suspected Internet gambling operation, and police confiscated a money-counting machine, five Lexus cars, plasma screen TVs and a large amount of cash.

But Lee, who recently won more than $2.8 million in the 2006 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas, hasn't been charged with a crime, said Sandy Gutierrez, spokeswoman with the San Antonio Police Department.

Lee denied operating an Internet gambling Web site but said he was taking part in an online poker tournament on partypoker.com when police arrived.
