Online poker helps women turn the tables

Although this is UK-focused – I believe the same applies to America. Hell – I’m a prime example of a woman who practices online to be able to beat the crap out of The Boys on Poker Night.

If I’m ever invited, that is.

Orange.co.uk reports that an increasingly large percentage of poker punters are women playing online. In fact, more than a third of online poker players are female.


Reasons for the sudden rise in popularity among women include:

• The accessibility of online games


• The fact that the Internet has made gambling fun and available to everyone


• You can play for free while you learn the rules and pick-up the basics (Note: I learned the game at The Gaming Club Online Casino and to this day prefer it to the other online sites.)


• When you’re ready to gamble for real, you can play with low stakes and potentially win big money


• You can do it any time, night or day. (According to the article, many top players have confessed to playing in their underwear!)


• The anonymity of the Internet. Because of the faceless nature of online gaming, there’s no chance of you as a women being regarded as inferior.

Tip: A high percentage of women pretend to be men whilst playing online, but many guys pretend to be women. So there’s your first tip: if you’re playing against others online, don’t assume anything from a player name.
